• What is it?
True custom clothing is constructed from the ground up starting with your measurements and fabric selection. People often confuse custom clothing with made-to-fit or Box Suits, both of which are made from pre-set patterns based on standard measurements. At Michael Allen’s we ask you several questions about your tastes and then create a pattern just for you.

• What type of clothes do you make?
When most people think custom, they think business and formal attire. While a good portion of our clients do come to us for their suiting and shirting needs, we make anything and everything you could dream up. From gowns and cocktail dresses to golf and resort wear, we’ve made it all. Get as creative as you want. With custom, the sky is the limit!

• How long does it take?
Our custom shopping experience usually takes between a half hour and an hour. We need time to take your measurements and help you select a fabric. Clients are encouraged to take their time while sipping a glass of wine, scotch, or their favorite cocktail. Once you have left the store, average production takes four to six weeks. Time sensitive situations can be accommodated.

• Where is it made?
Outside of our custom handmade Italian silk ties, all of our garments are hand sewn in North America.

• How much does it cost?
With all custom clothing the price varies based on what is being made, the fabric choice and how much fabric is needed. However, it is more reasonable than one would expect. On average the garments that come out of our custom line are competitive with ready-to-wear you will find in our store or at other high end retail locations.

• What if I don’t live in Portland?
No problem! Michael Allen’s has regular clientele all over the country. If you happen to be visiting, come in to get fitted. We can take your measurements and keep them on file. Once we have them, all it takes is a quick email or phone call and we can make whatever you need. If you are not planning a trip to Portland, call us anyway….we’ll come to you!
