Michael Allen Fredrickson, a native of Oregon, has been involved in fashion for over 30 years. He started in retail at a young age and slowly gained knowledge of the custom clothing industry. With years of experience and an established client base, he decided to go into the custom tailoring business for himself. And so, in October of 1992, Michael Allen’s was born.

Michael Allen’s started in the second bedroom of a Northwest Portland apartment with some fabrics, a tape measure and a phone. After six months, the company was able to rent an office on SE Taylor. Michael Allen’s spent several years there before moving a few blocks away to 915 SW 9th Avenue for its first storefront location. This space afforded the company an opportunity to expand its business into men’s ready-to-wear. Quality remained the main priority, and Fredrickson brought in fashion forward lines, mostly out of Europe. Michael Allen’s spent ten years in this location, becoming a mainstay of downtown Portland.

Exponential growth propelled Michael Allen’s into its largest retail space to date! In September of 2007, Michael Allen’s Clothier moved two blocks north to the corner of SW 9th and Morrison. However, Fredrickson retained the original location and opened a new venture for the company called Michael Allen’s Home. The home store features small furniture and accent pieces that reflect his commitment to quality and style.
